Join us for a breathtaking walking tour through Hoy, an island rich in rugged landscapes and ancient history. We begin with a short 20-minute foot passenger ferry from Stromness to Moaness, where the West part of Hoy unfolds with sweeping heathery hills and awe-inspiring scenery. From Moaness, we follow the glen’s winding paths to the tranquil township of Rackwick, nestled between towering cliffs and a golden beach. Here, we’ll pause for a well-earned lunch on the famous Rackwick Beach, surrounded by the raw beauty of Orkney’s wild coastline. Refreshed, we continue our journey to the iconic Old Man of Hoy, a towering sea stack revered by climbers and admired by all who visit. Standing at the edge, you’ll feel the vastness of the sea stretching beyond the horizon—a moment of pure connection with the elements. On our return to Rackwick, we take a scenic single-track road to the mysterious Dwarfie Stane, a Neolithic chamber carved directly into the rock - a solitary testament to ancient craftsmanship. Before catching the ferry back to Stromness, there’s time for a warm cup of tea and a bite to eat at the local café, perfect for reflecting on the day’s adventure. Important Information: This is a long, moderate walk requiring appropriate footwear. Bring full waterproofs, a packed lunch, water and snacks.
