St Magnus cathedral

Kirkwall Walking Tour

The Kirkwall Walking tour starts at the harbour, following the narrow, winding road that made up historic Kirkwall's medieval coastline.  Hear stories of life in the past to today; Viking Earls and Scottish kings, Pressgangs, wedding customs and the Orkney Ba game.  We then visit the magnificent 12th Century St Magnus Cathedral and finish at the Orkney Museum.  

There is the option to include a guided tour of the Bishop and Earl's Palaces for an extra fee to enable entry.

Ring of Brodgar

Heart of Neolithic Orkney

Visit the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.  

We offer full day adventures with our driver guide or a half day guided walk around the Ness of Brodgar peninsula.   Immerse yourself in the landscape and history at the Stones of Stenness and Barnhouse village, the Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae and Unstan Cairn.  There is also the option of visiting Maeshowe chambered cairn with a pre-booked tour with the Historic Scotland guide, or Skara Brae Neolithic village.

Stromness to Skaill Bay or Birsay

Full day guided walk from the town of Stromness to Skaill Bay, with the option of a guided tour around Skara Brae Neolithic Village.  This can be extended into a two day hike by continuing the journey to Birsay.

This is a guided nature and history walk along the breathtaking West coast of Mainland Orkney from the town of Stromness to Skaill Bay. Marvel at the stunning views of sea stacks, geos, and diverse wildlife and flora as you traverse the clifftops.  Your adventure can include a private tour of Skara Brae Neolithic village and time for an afternoon treat at the visitor centre café.  ​

Mull Head

Mull Head Picts, Vikings and Wildlife

This clifftop walk at Mull Head Nature Reserve in Deerness, takes us along the impressive gloup and on to the Brough of Deerness before continuing along the coastal path.  We might see a variety of seabirds like fulmars, shags, cormorants and guillemots, wildflowers and seals.  We will explore this headland's Pictish, Viking and modern history and folklore.

Old Man of Hoy

Hoy

The island of Hoy is only a 30 min ferry trip away from the Orkney mainland.  It is home to Ward Hill, the highest hill in Orkney with a height of 481m, heathery moorland, the highest cliffs in the UK, beautiful beaches, the most northerly native woodland in the UK, and wildlife including eagles and mountain hares.  A day trip to Hoy can be done as a full day walking adventure from Moaness to Rackwick bay and the Old Man of Hoy, or we can take our vehicle across to explore more sites including the Dwarfie Stane, a neolithic rock-cut tomb, and Betty Corrigal's grave.  Hoy has lots to offer Guided multi-day hikes are available too.

Graemsay sandside beach

Graemsay

Graemsay is a wonderfull small island to explore.  Only a  30 minute ferry ride from the town of Stromness, it is easily circumnavigated on foot in a day.  Graemsay has an interesting geology and tons of history and folklore too, with fascinating stories from the Neolithic and Viking period, the building of the two lighthouses,  tales of a19th century shipwreck, war time remains and what community life is like today. 

Also called 'Orkney's Green Isle', it is a haven for wildlife, fauna and flora.

Egilsay St Magnus

Saint Magnus Way

The Saint Magnus Way is a 58 mile/93km pilgrimage route throughout Mainland Orkney.  The route is inspired by the life and death of Saint Magnus, Orkney's patron saint.  

 

The route starts on the island of Egilsay and finishes in Kirkwall at the Saint Magnus Cathedral, and can be walked over six days.  It can also be undertaken in sections.

Women-only walking trips offer a unique opportunity for women to connect, share experiences, and support each other in a safe and comfortable environment. These trips foster a sense of empowerment and camaraderie, allowing participants to engage more openly and authentically. They can provide a space where women feel more at ease to take on challenges, explore new surroundings, and enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of kayaking, all while building lasting friendships and networks.
